DTI ToolKit (DTI-TK)

Overview

DTI-TK is an image analysis package specifically designed for manipulating diffusion-tensor images. Diffusion-tensor images are multi-dimensional and they store at each voxel a tensor characterizing local diffusion. Due to the tensorial nature of the data, special cares have to be taken when applying some of the most basic image operations, such as image interpolation and warping. These common image operations are supported in this toolkit by implementing the state-of-the-art algorithms most appropriate for diffusion-tensor data. Tools for direct visualization of tensorial data are provided to support necessary examination of manipulated tensor volumes.

This toolkit also provides spatial normalization and atlas construction tools tailored specifically for DTI [1,2]. The underlying algorithms for these tools leverage the rich discriminating features afforded by diffusion-tensor images when imaging fibrous structures, such as white matter, and have been shown to provide better alignment of human brain white matter structures [3].
